Boards and Mail

If you’re an avid reader of my blog, you should probably remember that I blogged about the 4 most used blogging tools used by bloggers. And now, I’ve come up to make an analogy (once again)- about having tag boards or chat box aka Cbox/Shoutbox/Shoutmix to some bloggers’ blogs and just using an emal-me method.
When I started blogging, I used to use tag board for my visitors to drop their messages there. Even just short, hateful or sweet messages. But what I didn’t like about it which I realized when I opened DHD, was that most visitors (mostly bloggers) were abusing it. Tell you what, they tend to be so much lazy- when you have a note that link exchanges should NOT be done there, they will STILL drop message like “Hi. Link ex?” which I think is too annoying. What? Can’t you read the note? You do not know how to read? Or you’re just merely disregarding it? Drop the link exchange topic. Let’s move on and get over it. Another issue is, according to what I’ve understood, chat box is not plug board! That’s why it IS called chat box because it should be use only for chatting and not “Hello. I have a new post, hope you can comment.” Merely plugging your blog post when in fact you didn’t even comment to the owner’s post. I’ve BEEN there. But now I realized what the point is. For sure the author will return comments and will surely drop by to your site if and only if you commented on his/hers. But if not, what will you expect right? And the last is, some bloggers (or not!) who were haters of the blog owner tend to leave messages like “Hey! I don’t like your site, get a life.”, “*insert bad word here*”. And they won’t even leave a link of their site if they have one or just named themselves Anonymous! So how on Earth will the webmaster reach you to start a private conversation and to get the issue fixed? It will definitely lower your level if you start a war using tag board and come to think of it, you’ll be the loser after it because you made yourself unknown which is a sign of cowardliness. On a brighter note, chat box is surely helpful when the message is quite ASAP to read, like “Hey, your other blog has been hacked!”. So if the webmaster read it without checking her mail yet, she’s now informed. And besides you can monitor who your visitors are because they leave messages like “Hi! Dropping by here.” Heh, as you read you may notice I don’t like using tag board now.
About the email-me/contact-me method, I’m used to this now. It’s more of the professionalism of the blog owner. Not that who use tag boards are not professional or any of some sort but I think it’s decent, less wars and less of all negative issues. Besides, anything and everything can be talked over email right? :p It’s more of exerting much effort and be able to follow what should be followed. Talking about obedience, heh!
So, I think it ends here? FYI, I just wrote what I observed. If you’re against all these, comment properly, thank you!
Site wise, I just finished validating my blog at XHTML 1.0 Transitional and CSS 2.1 last night and mind you, it was successful after having more than 50 errors in XHTML and 15+ in CSS! You can check my footer for a proof? Yeah, I’m proud of what I’ve done!
Questions!
What do you think is much useful?
Have you use those boards before? (or even now?)
Are your site(s) XHTML and CSS valid?
I hate people who plugs their posts on my cbox. T___T
Have you use those boards before? (or even now?) I use my cbox til now.
hahaha.
Are your site(s) XHTML and CSS valid? xHTML valid. CSS.. hmmm, i havent edited yet the cForms that’s why the CSS has still errors. stupid plugin.
I’ve never use a chat box before, maybe it’s because I don’t chat much often and because of the common issues with it. People seldom obey chat box rules as it’s something really casual and open. Just like you, I’m using the email-me/contact-me method. Very true, it’s more decent and easier to handle.
What do you think is much useful?
Email.
Have you use those boards before? (or even now?)
No.
Gumagamit aku ng tagboard, but hindi ako against sa entry mu. actually, gusto ko na tanggalin un kase hindi ku rin naaacess. And minsan, puro ads lang dun. hmmm ~
I think magcocontact form nalang ako? haha. still dont know. haha
I used cbox.ws, I used to have a tagboard on my sidebar on my old blog site, before sugar-candy. I hated when I would comment people and then they just comment on my response to their blog in my cbox and didn’t comment my blog, that used to be annoying. Ha, I couldn’t stand the anonymous people who would live weird names like “jfkdlsleid” =/ I had a cbox on sugar-candy, but it was on another page specifically for un-related blog comments, I took it down though, because I have a very easy method of contacting me, a contact form, if that’s too hard to use then I don’t know what else to do, lmao.
I like having a comments section and that’s pretty much it but that’s because I don’t really like giving out my email – I keep a trashy one because I know spam will collect. Tag boards leave a place for people to quickly respond but then I find it so important for visitors who really care to read the blog but at least you’re email idea now is better than the chat/tagboard.
thanks!
o yea?? cool.
LOL yeah that was a pretty crazy story in itself.
I really should do mine, wish i could find the time!
OMG i had a tagboard too and its just so stupid when the message is clearly right above it and people go ahead and disobey it anyways. -.-
Congrats on the validating
I agree with all of that! When I had a CBox I’d get random people telling me they have a new blog or telling me to visit their site? I was just thinking… “Um, who are you?”. People would always leave hateful messages too, always called ‘Anonymous’, which is so cowardly. One person called me a slut once when I was like 12 on an old site… I was thinking… ‘you don’t even know me
’!
I’ve never used a tag board… I don’t know, they’ve just never appealed to me. I much prefer the email/contact me method, just seems more professional and better to me! Plus it’s private, so it won’t start any wars with people defending you or whatever. xD
What do you think is much useful?
Email
Have you use those boards before? (or even now?)
Nope
Are your site(s) XHTML and CSS valid?
I don’t think so. xD :p
Heya April! Awww thanks! OMG I love your layout! It’s so colourful…aaah. hehe
I love your name too!
Because my birthday is in April
When I opened my first domain, I used wordpress. A friend of mine told me it was a great idea so I installed it lol.
oeeh, love your layout.
& nah, i just love romantic movies etc. if you think about the movie & know it all really happened that way.. it’s just not a movie for me ;p
So true, but I think it was because of the sun in the rural areas. =[
I'm still trying to validate my XHTML 1.0 Transitional so good on for for fixing the 50 errors.
I still have about 45 errors left and I've all but almost given up.
Haha. you're so right, but I never really understood the Chat Box. I mean, the ASAP stuff is needed, but all in all, I think most stuff could just well be said by commenting on the most current blog entry. =]]
Thanks C= I really like your layout, i love the colors too
Lol. I like Cbox. I think it depends on what kind of site you have when you have one of these tagboards. I’m using a Cbox for my icon site because I don’t wanna hassle with comments. lol.
My site isn’t in XHTML because I’m merely too lazy to learn a few more things about it. But I’m pretty sure it’s CSS valid with 3 errors that I’m again too lazy to change.
But I do see your point. Some people are just ignorant or annoying. .-.
Heyy! Thanks for the comment
x
Something I couldn’t do haha.
Congrats on doing XHTML 1.0 Transitional and CSS 2.1
American Lit isn’t awful.. just my teacher is annoying, lol.
Great blog.
What do you think is much useful?
Email for sure.
Have you use those boards before? (or even now?)
Cbox but I stopped awhile ago.
Are your site(s) XHTML and CSS valid?
Doubt it. xD
lmao, yeah. I didn’t even bother putting a tag/chat board on my site ’cause I knew that people would do stuff like that.. not actually chat. It really bugs me.. hehe. So what’s up?
Cool it’s cool to talk to it about to someone
Hope we can be friends. I don’t like cbox or shoutmix that much.
So any plans for the weekend? like ur layout too !
I guess I should turn down my tagboard na rin. Since di ko naman talaga sya binabasa, ever. haha minsan lang pag nakakakita ako ng important notes from my online friends/blogger.
haha i cant have a new vblog everyday
my life is just too boring
thats the reason i dont use cboxes anymore (or whatever) because i usually just get ‘link exchange?’ msgs or ‘do you want to be affiliates?’.
my site is not valid haha, when i have time, i need to fix it.
Oh I know, 3 domains is a no go for me. I’m getting rid of my fansite, although nobody really knows. I disliked working on it — it was a bad decision. the only part i liked was coding and making layouts, which led me to my new idea. most likely, i’ll just have one domain name, although i may have 2? i dont know…..
Hey,
You think I should win? Yeh, I think so too but I think I’m gonna lose because of how much votes I got. My site sucks
Thanks for the comment again and im glad you like my sketch! Yey, thanks for your opinion on those dresses, chyeah! Hope youre well (:
Personally I don’t like tagboards very much although I do have one on my site. The only reason why I still have one is because I placed it in a separate page so if someone really wanted to use it they had to look for it.
I basically never return peoples comments when they only come on to plug their own site.
What do you think is much useful? I like email forms
Have you use those boards before? (or even now?) Yep, still have one barely check it though
Are your site(s) XHTML and CSS valid? Yes but apparently my XHTML is validated tentatively…i am unclear as to what that means.
Wooooo! Congrats on validating *round of applause*
I totally loved your tagboard rant. Far out! I hated it when people just left “nice site” messages. Or the anonymous ones that say “you steal”. I HATE the “dropped by” messages. I didn’t get many, but they pissed me off. So I got rid of my tagboard once and for all
What do you think is much useful?
Not tagboards, that’s for sure.
Have you use those boards before? (or even now?)
Yep, not now though.
Are your site(s) XHTML and CSS valid?
YES. I am very vehement about it.
Microsoft invented IE.. it’s so stupid lol. Your site looks okay except the ‘subscribe’ text is small xD
Thank you!
I like your blog. Some people are just so inconsiderate and they take advantage.. though, some people are just jealous. All of the haters are really jealous people.
Congrats on validating everything! I’ve validated my CSS before, but I don’t have the patience for everything else.
nakakainis tlga ung pag sa cbox lng ako gngwa ko lng un if hnd pa sia update or comments off. nakakainis talaga ano? yan dn reason why nag alis ako ng cbox pero sa CB ko kasi kht papano i get sensible msgs minsan so aun hinayaan ko nlng hehe
lol i know, i love love love them. really? that’s cool, do they put captions for the pictures as well or just the pictures? I like ours because we get to do it, well theres a class, and we put the names of people so when we look back at them years from now we can be like “ohh thats who that person is” and so on lol.
i know what you mean, i used to have those things as well when i first got a site. although there wernt any bad messages, they were always messages such as that.. come look at my site.. comment me please.. they just look desperate so why would someone want to, especially when they didn’t take the time to properly comment others back.
yaay congrats on validating your site! I know it’s such a pain, but worth it in the end cause you feel much better about your site
Grabe, ang tsaga mo magvalidate. Noon nung wordpress pako 100 minsan 500+ errors ng xHTML ko. Haha.
About the tagboard, you are so right. May nakasulat na ngang “No link exchanges here” sabay dun pa magaask ng link exchange. And yung issue ko, yung mga nagsasabi ng I hate you, oo, nakakainis. Gumagamit pa ng proxy sites para mahide yung IP tas Anonymous pa.
i don’t get tagboard abuse really, i get blog comment abuse and its rather annoying how people dont follow my blog commenting rules. my rules are basically like what your is. how much effort they put into their comment is how much i will.
congrats congrats on that validation. I need to validate mine. I have only seven but Im really lazy so thats alot lol XP
1.) i have tagboard so that ppl who arent supposed to comment in my blog specified by my blog rules can contact me so tagboard
2.) yep
3.) no :\ shame i know lol
People in Bali are very spiritual, and I think the idea came from wanting to be able to meditate, to connect with the gods. It’s a really interesting religion
I use a cbox for some of my friends who aren’t commenting on my blog. It really bugs me when people plug their blogs or post anonymously, it makes me want to get rid of my cbox. -.-
Congrats on validating your site!
What do you think is much useful? Just commenting on the blog using their blogging system
Have you use those boards before? (or even now?) Yes, I’m using one now.
Are your site(s) XHTML and CSS valid? I don’t think so
-Sarah
i love the email method ; iono i love getting emails C:
I still use a tagboard and I hate it. Like what you said, link exchanges, haters and all annoying stuffs. But it’s easier for people to connect with me. Especially those lazy to make mails. I tried to use mailing system but people wont do it anyway.
Congrats for the validated thingy!
I have a lot of errors in my blog. Hahahaha.
Before kasi I allow ppl. to request link exs sa tagboard ko IF they linked me already. Pero nung nagpalit ako ng theme after Rainbow Stars theme ko hindi nako nakapaglagay because of boredom and now via contact form nalang yung link exes request so ayun…
Tama lahat ng sinabi mo, apir tayo! lalo na yung nag paplug ng sites nila sa chatbox.. Asar!
haha, apir tayo sa entry na ito!
Congrats sa validating thingy. (hindi ako alam yon, my gosh!)
haha!
I agree.
I hate those people who plug their sites on my chatbox. I mean, can they just wait for people to come to their sites? Haha.
Have you use those boards before? (or even now?) Yes.
Are your site(s) XHTML and CSS valid? I don’t think so :]
tama yan sis, minsan nakakaasar din yung nagplu-plug. buti sana kung magcomment din sya sayo. I hate din yung mga bashers. wala ka namn ginagawa pero mag-iiwan sila ng mga hate messages.
1.) What do you think is much useful?
I thnk useful din ang tagboard kaso nga lang may mga disadvanatages
2.) Have you use those boards before? (or even now?)
yep, pero ngayon hindi na..
3.) Are your site(s) XHTML and CSS valid?
CSS.
kakainis tlaga yung sa cbox thing.. pero i’m still using it right now, kasi may iba rin naman na sensible yung nilalagay so go nalang… and so far, wala pa naman nagsasabi na they hate me or something
mabuti nalang…
and wow! with the validation, galing naman.. sipag mo talga april
weeeeehh! congratz
Those points you just spoke about are some reasons why I choose not to have a chat box. Some people think dropping by on a chat box is the same as commenting on blogs.
E-mail is the best way to go for me, or even twitter.
Congrats on getting your site valid! I had around 70 errors when I started off, but I bothered to validate everything.
What do you think is much useful? E-mail.
Have you use those boards before? (or even now?) Nope, never had one. I have used one to tell the web owner something before.
Are your site(s) XHTML and CSS valid? Yes, XHTML Transitional and CSS. My aim is to get my site valid in XHTML strict.
Ugh, I hate it when people leave comments like that on my blog let alone a tag board. Hey nice site visit mine. No. Because I like people to look at the entry not just advertise! I had a big rant like this last year and then somebdy did it on the blog and I was like ASfklgdoijsdfokgjskf!!!
What do you think is much useful? Email.
Have you use those boards before? (or even now?) Once but it was just a sorry for being inactive, i will return your comment soon don’t reply to this Yay~ or something afetr my china trip to one of my online BFF’s.
Are your site(s) XHTML and CSS valid? I think they are almost..
That’s why I hate tagboard. It makes people lazy to comment more. They just usually say how are you, ‘sup, nice site…etc. So, if we have blogging systems then we don’t need to use tagboard too.
Congrats on validating your CSS and XHTML! It’d be really hard at first but then it’d become so easy! You should be proud.
What do you think is much useful?
E-mail
Have you use those boards before? (or even now?)
Nope
Are your site(s) XHTML and CSS valid?
Yeppp.
It’s been ages since I last used a cbox. I think they’re a waste of space to be honest, I’d rather someone read my blog (no matter how pointless/boring/long it is) and comment with something which will actually spark a decent conversation. I occasionally get the “hi, link exchange?” comments and I don’t even do link exchanges
I only link my affiliates and people I talk to a lot.
I prefer emails to be honest, even over comments. I check my emails a lot so there’s always more chance of me replying to an email before a comment, even if I’ve said I wont be online as much.
Congrats with the XHTML & CSS
!
What do you think is much useful?
Email :\
Have you use those boards before? (or even now?)
I used cbox for a while a few years ago.
Are your site(s) XHTML and CSS valid?
XHTML Transitional & CSS
I agree with your post but I’m kinda used to use tagboards and put it in my site’s sidebar. You have a point ate April, some are using tagboards for advertising and stuff. Ugh.
1. Both? Hahaha.
2. Until now.
3. IDK. Hindi ata. :p
Oh wow. I feel so primitive. I have no idea what XHTML and all that blah is but I have given up a Cbox and the like since my first year of blogging.
Forms? LOL.
Before.
I have no idea.
Before, i don’t use tagboard. there’s just this ‘contact me’ link if they want to say something or some sort. now, I do.
The only two things I don’t like about bloggers is leaving their ‘new post! comment please’ tagline and ‘link ex?’. The latter is really annoying. Kasi, I’ve placed this ‘no link ex here, contact me instead’ sign. Gahh, can’t they read? Hayy. But still, i keep my chatbox for my purposes.
Hey April, thank you for the support on both the boyfriend problem and the layout!
And don’t worry, I have now changed the textarea background. The other background was just so cute, I didn’t want to get rid of it, haha. But it’s gone now!
2) I personally don’t have a chatbox and I don’t think I ever will. I’ve seen people abuse them on almost every site I’ve visited, and it just irks me to no end!
3) Only my CSS is valid. I’ve been trying nonstop to get my xhtml valid, but I just can’t. :s I don’t know how to fix some things.
Well, I use a tagboard too (a cbox, to be more specific) and luckily I have yet to experience being deliberately spammed by people who have nothing to do with their dear lives, and don’t even bother to attach their site URLs for the sake of adding a sick touch of anonymity. I bet it gets truly annoying when many people start visiting your site, and things start to turn out that way.
I might be removing my chatbox soon, when I manage to get a domain, so no worries. I hope my site will a be 100% clean then, although I doubt it, as I am the one that dirties it up myself
Btw, many thanks for the comment you left on my blog… re that one, well, actually it IS a resort in the Philippines–how’d you guess? Well, I bet it was pretty obvious after all
It’s the Kuhala Bay Resort in Cardona, Rizal, owned by no other than the famed broadcaster, Joe Taruc. Yes, that guy XP You ought to go there, it’s a fantastic place. I could spend a whole summer just lounging around in the pool, or standing on the dangerous ledge below.
Oh, and that reminds me. I almost forgot to tell you.
Your site is really beautiful. I’m currently lovin’ the color scheme. A little bit kawaii, eh. Plus your name is totally creative. Two thumbs up.
Plus your layout really is for Blogger? Hah, how amazing! I couldn’t have been able to do all these conversions myself–why I even use guides to do a layout hahaha! Well at least I’m quite capable of doing em on my own, that’s all what matters to me. Seems you really are good at this.
As much as I hate people plugging their post in my cbox, I am used to it by now. Some bloggers just have this tendency to be quite… annoying.
- I think both methods are useful. That would just depend on which one I first check, email or my website.
- Yes, till now
- Nope. LOL. I am too lazy to validate them.
Oh wow, how brave of you, sweetie. I’ve been noticing the same things done to me on my site, and kudos to you for speaking what I’ve always wanted to say! Everything you said was on point. Gonna follow this up with a post of my own (once I’ve finished setting up WP and all that jazz).
i used to be an e-mail freak because of what i see on television. pero okay rin naman yung chatboxes. but yeah, they have disadvantages nga like yung mga things you mentioned bes. sadyang may mga tao lang talaga who don’t read instructions. haaayyy. bhala na nga cla.
i dunno kng valid yung codes ng site ko. i don’t really care naman. hehehe.
ugh… i can’t believe having a tag board is sooooo not cool… i thought of having one.. good thing i refused to do it..
What do you think is much useful?
none…
Have you use those boards before? (or even now?)
no…:)
Are your site(s) XHTML and CSS valid?
i don’t know.. hehe…
oh yeah I agree with that meron mga makukulit minsan kea d n rin ako naglalagay ng Link Ex is not allowed here pinapabayaan ko n lng kea nilagay ko cbox me sa footer pra d masyado visible lol! and yeah nakakaasar din yung iba na magmemessage that you must to drop her site or comment unto it pero sila hindi nagcocomment yeah I know big deal din un kasi wala ung exchange og thoughts lol!! oh yeah sa mga haters ahaha pinapabayaan ko if ever magkaroon me since it’s not a big deal for me meron ako hater kasi normal n rin yan lol!! anyway congratz your site is validated yung new layout me soon baka ipavalidate ko muna bago ko isalpak sa site me lol kasi gamit me now d pa validated kasi sa sobrang excited ko rin ilaunch site me ahahaha!! nakaligtaan ko magpavalidate lol!
Questions!
What do you think is much useful?
Have you use those boards before? (or even now?)
Are your site(s) XHTML and CSS valid?
1. I prefer E-mail
2. yeah actually I am using one para na rin updated ako sa ibang bloggers.
3. Nope not yet baka soon
I’ve used tagboards and I used to say that I have a new blog post and stuff but I eventually stopped coz I felt that it was pointless anyway. Not sure if my site’s XHTML and CSS valid coz Tin made my site. Hehe.
Kanya kanya naman yan April eh. May mga tao lang talaga na nasanay maginform ng new post through the tagboard which shouldn’t be the case. Parang naging trend na din kasi so you really can’t blame them if they’re like that.
Di ako against sa entry mo, super nag-agree nga ako from start to end. (:
Kahit ako naiinis din sa mga nag-paplug sa Tagboard ko. minsan nagfa-flood pa. >.<
What do you think is much useful? — Email / Contact Forms
Have you use those boards before? (or even now?) — i’m still using my tagboad.
Are your site(s) XHTML and CSS valid? — CSS palang ung valid. ung XHTML super daming errors.
I’ve never had a chat box because I’ve seen what people do with the. They either write hateful or disgusting things. With email it’s harder to write an anonomous (sp?) email. You’d have to take the time to get a fake email address, then go and submit the email. Who wants to do all of that just to say you’re site sucks.
My CSS is valid but my xhtml isn’t anymore. I’m just to lazy to fix it I guess.
Haha. I totally agree with you sisss!! The reason why I placed my tagboard on the single page… not in the homepage … para maiwas na yang mga ganyan. There are ppl who passed by lang just to promote that they have new post on their blog… as if babasahin ko kaagad diba? Its just useless.
Marami parin talagang pasaway at di nakakaintindi kahit na ipaglandakan mo na ung pinakamalaking font size dyan para lang mabasa nila. Sows. kaloka talaga.
Haha..congrats sis at successful ung pagvalidate mo ng blog mo. I also validated my blog just like yours BEFORE but now I stopped it kasi it takes time eh~ LOL! tsaka nakakatamad ayusin. Wahaha.
I had a Cbox a couple of years ago but it felt kind of unnecessary when people also could comment my blog posts and e-mail me.
Congrats on validating your site!
What do you think is much useful?
E-mail.
Have you use those boards before? (or even now?)
Not anymore.
Are your site(s) XHTML and CSS valid?
Yes.
Quite informative. Any more information on this?
I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more articles from you in the future.
