Burying Eden

A slight tap on my shoulder awakened my senses. I was absorbed by the catastrophic computer- sunken dilemma of my work. “Hey, want to go out… I mean… lunch with me?” said a familiar voice, Rina. She smiled at me like a blooming bud amidst the mountainous shredded papers in my office. I smiled back. I reached for her hand. Held it like it was the last. I really love her. But no one knew about us, about this. Minutes passed, we found ourselves inside the cafeteria, eating our lunch, the same menu. We’ve been together for 3 years and still we’re superbly in love with each other. I remember those times we did our “first-kissing, hugging under the rain and even the “intense” one.

It was perfectly romantic. All bliss. Only death can separate us.

The lunch we had was awesome. October is special as they call it. The company’s employees were hurrying for next month’s blast. It was quite a restless week for us.

We both know how busy we are in our work. We are always thinking of how can we escape the bustling and tiring life we had and maybe we can go out and beat the heat in Boracay. I’ve always wanted to see her wearing those silky thin dresses I bought her, with my hands flirting its glam curls, and her fragrant body. How I love to touch and…

“Lee, are you alright?” a husky voice. It was Marco. He ruined my fantasy!

“Oh yes I’m fine. Just a little pre-occupied. Anything you need?” I said. Marco and Rina were together since college. They’re best friends, a good reason why I should not be jealous when the two were together. “Bro…” Marco, pointing Rina’s office. From there, we heard giggles. “I think she’s with Sir Zen.” Added Marco. With a raised brow. I went outside my office. Suddenly, the giggles stopped. My mind exploded.

Without a single knock, I stormed inside Rina’s office. There stood Rina, kissing a post-like body of a crooked chin maniac- Sir Zen! “Lee, is there something we can do for you?” he asked, slowly unwrapping Rina’s arms around his waist. Rina fell silent. “Well I just want to talk to Rina. Can I?” I said politely but a part of mind screaming “kick him off!”

“Sorry but we have to discuss few things about her project next month. So would you mind?” he commanded, pointing a finger to the door. Rina was still silent. Now, I feel like kicking him ’til he dies. Without a word, I quickly turned back. Door slammed.

(ring tones filled my room)

Rina… calling.

I picked up the phone. “Honey, I’m sorry. It’s not what you are thinking. Zen has a big problem. I just hug him… for sympathy. Then he kissed me. Please talk to me. I love…” (Beep.. call ended). The phone dropped quietly in the floor. For that moment, all I wanted is my solitude. No phone calls. No Rina. As I closed my eyes, a blurred picture of Rina hanging in my head. I cried.

It has been a week since “that” happened. Now, I’m fine. No marks of agony this time. I want to go to Rina and apologize. I want to hold her again.

As I open the door, wearing a smile for a new start, “Honey I’m back! Ri—”. I froze.

What a scornful scene! Beneath the floor lay Rina with Marco on her top… both naked!

Again tears shut me down. Again. I’m numb.

I reached for the pistol inside my pocket.

Bang! Bang!

Rina’s naked body lies on the floor with a chiseled liar on her top, Marco… cold, dead.

A portrait of betrayal. Blood stained the floor. Memories shattered once more.

Death.

Lorelie Sy, 27, a computer analyst, a murdered, I killed them.

Everything is dark then. I hurriedly close the window. I reached for a lighter in my pocket. I lit it first, to lead my way back to my illuminator. My trembling hands lead the flames to the candle. Sharing one’s flames.. heat. But the flames went off. Heartaches pinched. The room is dark again. Vivid pictures of Rina…

Her smiles..
Her lips…
Our love…

Her naked body, cold, lying on the floor with Marco!

“I’m sorry honey, it’s your fault.”

A sudden flash of grin painted my face. I cannot stand the pain. Tears rolled down.

Darker… the room was.

  1. My God, that was a great sad story.. The girl was to blame I think so too. She hurt the guy twice by appearing to be unfaithful, first with the boss and second with the bestfriend.. That’s awfully bad.. She was rowing in 3 rivers..

    but I guess maybe she was just sad too so she needed comfort, that’s why Marco and she did it./. But again, it ‘s not right.. And the one who killed them, also was wrong..Vengeance is in the Lord’s hand..

    Wow. ganda ng story. I dunno whom to blame. Well, pareho naman silang mali eh. Rina cheating and the guy shouldn’t have killed them. Sinira lang nya buhay nya. Oh well, ganun talaga life. I dunno if I should say this, but I really love vengeance-themed stories. XD

  5. A tragic story? I don’t know hindi ko masyadong nagustuhan since the guy is makitid ang utak. He just jump to a conclusion then impulsively kill his “love”? if you can call it love ha.. weird story, if you ask me.

    It’s a great story – and really tragic. I think that he should have given his love a chance. Not just shot her like that. It was partially her fault that she was caught in that situation and her lover saw. :| It’s quite sad. But what an awful sight that must have been! How could she have explained herself?!

    I only have PS CS2. It’s a cracked version, hehehe.

  10. It’s a beautiful story. I almost get off my chair. Aww, I think it’s Rina’s fault. It started because of the scene where Rina is kissing his boss Zen.

    She should have been faithful from the start so nothing more will happen. Grr, I just hate that character.

    But Lee should not took revenge by killing someone. God will make a way for him to meet a better woman for her. I pity him so much.

    He is just loving and this is what he gets, unfaithfulness?

    Oh no, summer classes!? I’m sorry. :[ That's not fun. I may have to end up taking a summer course for college credits eventually, but ugh. maybs not! haha.

  29. the both of them is to blame. But if you’ll weigh them, Rina’s sin is much much heavier. Because if she didn’t cheat, then there will be no death. And for Lee, is the self-control. Many people have problem with that aspect. But yes, hardest thing to do. Is to control yourself from being mad, from being bad. That’s my opinion. It’s their fault, not only the girl, but the boy as well.

  34. A very touching yet tragic story, the plot thickens when the writer senses something fishy going on between the two. Very sad, one should always be faithful to themselves and their significant other.

  35. The ending to this story was very good. Sent chills down my spine. I think I just have a vivid imagination and I pictured it as if it were a film. It was hard to follow at first, but I eventually got into it.

    Um, I don’t know who’s to blame. Honestly, I didn’t really like the story. I thought that it was too elementary and messy. It had a lot of unnecessary commas. The sentences were too choppy. Ahh I’m being a jerk I’m gonna stop now.

    Anyways, I don’t like Hello Kitty either! I think she ..or it, is so overrated ! Mm ..I love cake tooooooo !!!

    what a great story dang~! nakuh minsan talaga kapag ganyan kung sino ang biktima sea pa ang nagiging suspect this story is great betrayal, actually common na ang ganito situation right now betraying the one you love maybe kasi may kulang sa pagmamahalan pero I think hindi pa rin maganda ang ganun. :)
